The 30th anniversary of the Astra Film Festival will start on 15 October with a screening of the work-in-progress documentary, Meeting Zelenskyy, directed by cinematic icon #Werner Herzog# and André Singer, produced Singer.
Apart from the world premiere, festival-goers can expect a plethora of events including film screenings, masterclasses led by industry leaders like #Pablo D’Ambrosi#, special exhibitions by artists such as #Dan Perjovschi#, and immersive cinema experiences with full-dome projections. Over 130 documentaries, primarily premieres, are slated to be screened, alongside dozens of other cinematic events.
The organisers are optimistic that this year’s selection will spark spirited debates among audiences. One of the festival’s cornerstones is its masterclass sessions, offering a unique chance to meet and learn from some of the documentary industry’s most revered figures. #André Singer#, a veteran with a career spanning 50 years, will be this year’s special guest in the «Masters – A Life in Documentary” programme.» Pablo D’Ambrosi will delve into the intricate process of editing music documentaries, while #Irena Taskovski# and #Hermione Efstratiades# will cover the journey from concept to screen and effective project marketing, respectively.
In addition to screenings and masterclasses, the festival also caters to younger audiences with its Astra Film Junior screenings and educational films. Photography exhibitions, like Transhumance by Dumitru Budrala and «30 Years of Astra Film Festival,» will be open to the public throughout the festival duration.
The festival also continues its commitment to hard-hitting, investigative journalism with documentaries like Recycling in Romania by Izabela Pop and Parallel Pandemic by Paul Angelescu, each followed by interactive debates.
