The Sarajevo Film Festival’s CineLink Talks programme for 2026, titled Recognition, Responsibility and Impact, brings together five panels examining how films gain visibility and what institutions owe them once that visibility has been secured. The sessions run across two strands, one addressing festival systems and international recognition, the other focused on documentary circulation and audience reach.
On 19 August, Gatekeepers or Gardeners? How Major Festivals Cultivate and Curate the Global Film Ecosystem looks at the labs, residencies and project markets through which festivals support filmmakers long before a premiere. Speakers include Nashen Moodley of the Sydney Film Festival, Thomas Rosso of Semaine de la Critique, Dorota Lech of TIFF and Elad Samorzik of the Berlin International Film Festival, moderated by Mona Tabbara of Screen International. The following session, Who Gets Seen? European Films, Global Recognition and the New Visibility Economy, turns to how awards campaigns, sales strategies and media coverage shape which European titles reach international audiences.
The documentary-focused strand takes place on 17 August. Beyond Selection: Who Takes Responsibility for a Documentary’s Life? asks what producers, broadcasters and sales agents commit to once a film has been selected. The Invisible Audience: Measuring Documentary Circulation Beyond the Box Office, presented with Doc Alliance, addresses the festival and non-theatrical screenings absent from standard funding data, noting that European feature documentary production rose from an annual average of 827 films between 2017 and 2019 to a provisional 1,018 in 2025. The final panel, From Reach to Impact: How a Commercial Broadcaster Can Drive Social Change, presents the CME Social Impact Center’s approach to building campaign strategy into commissioning from the outset, grounded in a case study developed with RTL Croatia.
