DOC[iN] – Viana International Documentary Festival is organised by the cultural association AO NORTE in partnership with the Municipality of Viana do Castelo. Dedicated to nonfiction cinema, the festival will present films addressing subjects including democracy, human rights, social justice, labour, memory, identity and climate change.

The programme will include an Official Competition for documentaries selected for their artistic quality and authorial perspective. Awards will be presented by an international jury. Submissions are open through FilmFreeway and Festhome, with a deadline of 15 December 2026.

Alongside its screening programme, DOC[iN] plans to establish a professional and educational section called WORK/PRO. Designed for higher education students in film, audiovisual media, multimedia and communication, the initiative will combine training activities, debates and meetings with filmmakers and industry professionals. Its stated aim is to connect academic education more closely with professional practice and help emerging practitioners develop skills and industry networks.

Community participation will form another central component of the festival. The DOC’S on the Move programme will organise documentary screenings across parishes in the municipality, while schools, cultural associations, parish councils and senior centres will participate in related educational and cultural activities.

Further projects will include filmmaker discussions, student-led festival coverage, screenings of the «Talking Photos» project and an exhibition titled «Affective Cartographies,» developed from family photograph albums collected across the region.
