This funding aims to bolster documentary storytelling in the region, fostering voices that are often overlooked in international circuits.

Supported Projects

  • Power, Elaine – Serbian director Mila Turajlić’s memoir documentary, awarded €40,000, explores the life of 90-year-old activist Elaine Mokhtefi, recounting her engagement with revolutionary movements. Set to premiere in January 2025, it offers a portrait of radical history.
  • With Love, from the Frontline – Ukrainian filmmaker Alisa Kovalenko captures her life on the frontline, combining the roles of soldier and mother. Co-produced by Polish producer Katarzyna Kuczyńska and awarded €40,000, this intimate documentary is slated for release in early 2025.
  • Wishing on a Star – Slovak director Peter Kerekes received €30,000 for his humorous and existential look at human connection, now screening at Ji.hlava after premiering at Venice.
