MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo will return to Rome from 6–10 October 2025, with a strong emphasis on nonfiction through its Doc Co-Production Market & Pitching Forum.
This year’s Doc Co-Production Market will present 15 projects in world premiere, selected from nearly 500 submissions to MIA’s broader Co-Production Market and Pitching Forum. The nonfiction lineup comprises 11 feature documentaries, two TV one-offs, and two docuseries. Italy fields six projects; the remainder are international co-productions spanning 14 countries, including Ukraine and Lebanon.
An international committee oversaw the nonfiction selection: Horia El Hadad (Al Jazeera English, Qatar), Bjorn Jensen (Ginger Foot Films, Germany), Fabio Mancini (Rai Documentari, Italy), Pamela Martinez (Limonero Films, Spain), Myriam Weil (Federation Studios, France), and Hiroshi Yokota (NHK Enterprises, Japan).
Projects range across culture, history, science, and social themes. Highlights include Baseball Island (Netherlands; New Ams Film Company; dir. Lyangelo Vasquez), exploring Curaçao’s baseball culture; Building Venice (Italy; EiE film; dir. Katia Bernardi), on the crafts safeguarding the city; Caretakers (Germany/Hungary/USA; OTHER FILMS; dir. Ambrus Hernadi) on transnational elder care; and Encounter (Germany/Peru; Caral Filmproduktion; dir. Jose Chavez Boggio), reflecting on Peru’s wounded memory. Science and nature are addressed in Spinosaurus: The Dinosaur That Swam (France; 3LPictures; dirs. Grégory Maitre, Olivier Mercier) and Per silenzio e vento (Italy; Albolina Film; dir. Marco Zuin).
