MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo has unveiled the first details of its 12th edition, set to take place in Rome from 19 to 23 October 2026, during a presentation at the Italian Pavilion in Cannes. Promoted by ANICA and APA under the direction of Gaia Tridente, the market is entering what organisers describe as a new phase, reshaping itself from a set of vertical industry sections into a more integrated platform for development, financing, distribution and international circulation.
The 2026 edition will introduce several structural additions. Most prominent is the Animation Series Gap Financing Market, a new programme aimed at animated series that already have broadcaster support and partial financing. Producers and broadcasters will use the platform to meet international co-producers, co-financiers and co-commissioners, with the goal of completing budgets and accelerating production.
MIA’s co-production market has also been reorganised around renewed pitching forums for narrative and animated features, documentary features and docuseries, and scripted series. Works in progress will continue through showcases including C EU SOON, GREENlit, Italian Series Animation Showcase and Italians Doc It Better.
A second major addition is the European Investment Hub, a two-day forum dedicated to financial tools for the audiovisual sector. It will examine co-production funds, equity instruments, guarantees, completion bonds, insurance mechanisms, public-private investment models and new forms of financial partnership, with round tables and informal networking designed to connect operators, investors and institutions.
The market will also launch CASA MIA, a networking lounge positioned near the main market areas and open to accredited participants. Conceived as an «audiovisual hub», it reflects MIA’s attempt to make networking less transactional and more continuous.
With new collaborations alongside Fondazione Cinema per Roma and Alice nella Città, MIA 2026 is positioning Rome not simply as a host city, but as a concentrated European industry node.
