Sarajevo Film Festival announces full 2023 documentary competition

The 29th Sarajevo Film Festival is just around the corner, and 49 films are vying for the prestigious Heart of Sarajevo awards.

The festival’s competition sections, spanning feature films, documentaries, short films, and student productions, will showcase a total of 22 world premieres, 2 international premieres, 22 regional premieres, and 3 national premieres.

In the realm of documentary films, Rada Šešić, the programmer of the Competition Programme – Documentary Film, has handpicked 20 outstanding titles. This selection boasts nine world premieres, one international premiere, seven regional premieres, and three premieres from Bosnia and Herzegovina. These films will vie for prestigious awards, including the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Documentary Film, the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Short Documentary Film, the Human Rights Award, and the Special Jury Prize.

The Sarajevo Film Festival embraces diversity and inclusivity, opening its competition programme to films and filmmakers from various countries, including Albania, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Georgia, Hungary, Kosovo*, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey, and Ukraine.
