Sunny Side of the Doc’s 34th edition has recently revealed the official selection of 42 projects from 23 countries. This event, which is taking place from 19-22 June 2023 in La Rochelle, France, is the most important gathering for the documentary community and international marketplace dedicated to linear and non-linear documentaries. The eagerly anticipated pitching sessions are expected to host more than 300 high-level international decision-makers, making the stakes high for the selected projects. The seven themed pitching sessions, sponsored by key industry partners such as PBS, Al Jazeera, and Blue Ant Media, will determine the winner of the Best Pitch Award in each category.
This year’s call for projects received an exceptional response, with 320 documentary projects from 56 different countries. The pre-selection committee has selected the 42 most inspiring and promising projects, with themes ranging from Global Issues to Arts & Culture, to New Voices and Impact Campaigns. Project leaders will receive support throughout the process, including mentoring by industry experts and access to a qualified and diverse professional audience. This will create opportunities for fruitful financial, creative, and commercial co-production opportunities for these documentary gems.
A new feature for this year’s event is the Awards Café on the Level-Up stage. Winners of each category will be announced the morning after the pitching session. The Awards Café provides a friendly and dedicated setting for participants to network and celebrate the winners of the 34th festival edition. The official selection of Sunny Side of the Doc promises an exciting and diverse line-up of documentary projects, with opportunities for project leaders to gain valuable support, exposure, and recognition.
