Sunny Side of the Doc announces 2024 official selection highlighting global documentary projects

The international documentary market and forum, Sunny Side of the Doc, has released its official selection for the 2024 edition. This year’s selection features 42 documentary projects from around the world.

The event, slated for 24-27 June in La Rochelle, serves as a crucial platform for over 300 decision-makers from broadcasting, streaming, and film distribution sectors to converge. Filmmakers will have the opportunity to pitch their projects with the aim of forging essential production and distribution agreements.

The 2024 lineup covers a broad spectrum of subjects, including conflict, migration, climate change, and the impact of technology on society. Over 55% of these projects are helmed by female directors.

This year, the projects are grouped under several thematic umbrellas such as Global Issues, Nature & Conservation, and Science, facilitating targeted pitching sessions. Notable entries include Bukal Bukal by EarthStar Films, Inside Gaza by Factstory and AFP, Silence of the Lams by EZ Films, Voices from the Ice by Arctic Productions, Reclaiming the Void by Zero Point Docs, and Echoes of the Jungle by WildLens Collective.

Additionally, the festival continues to embrace cutting-edge storytelling through its Innovation WIP program, which highlights non-traditional documentary formats like podcasts, video games, and immersive technologies. This initiative is designed to broaden the narrative possibilities within the documentary genre and encourage creative exploration.

The event will culminate in the awarding of the Best Pitch Prize, which recognizes excellence in several categories, providing further encouragement and visibility to the innovative filmmakers at the forefront of documentary cinema.
