Copenhagen will host the inaugural #CPH:DOX Summit on 24 March 2025. This new initiative, launched in collaboration with #Documentary Campus# and the Danish Producers’ Association, will convene politicians, industry leaders, and media professionals to explore the evolving role of documentary filmmaking in today’s shifting political and digital landscape.

The Summit, curated by Mark Edwards, will take place at the Social Cinema of Kunsthal Charlottenborg and focus on cross-sector dialogue. It aims to strengthen the role of documentaries in public discourse. A key theme of the event is the increasing need for media accessibility, with discussions on a proposed “bill of rights for audiences” that would ensure diverse and inclusive storytelling remains widely available.

Prominent speakers include Christo Grozev, an investigative journalist for Der Spiegel and The Insider, Rasmus Kleis Nielsen, Director at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, and Baroness Helena Kennedy, a leading advocate for media freedom, who will deliver a keynote on Media Accessibility as a Human Right. Keri Putnam, former Executive Director of the #Sundance Institute, and Matthias Pfeffer, Managing Director of the Council for European Public Space, will also discuss strategies for connecting filmmakers with audiences.

The Summit takes place during major transformation in the European media ecosystem, driven by streaming services, social media dominance, and artificial intelligence. Panelists will debate challenges in documentary financing, AI’s impact on content authenticity, and the role of public broadcasters and independent filmmakers in navigating digital disruption.
