The 74th #Berlinale will feature a Chilean participation from 15 to 21 February. This representation is orchestrated under the auspices of CinemaChile and Chiledoc, organisations dedicated to promoting Chilean films and documentaries on an international scale, with the support of ProChile.
The festival lineup includes the feature film Oasis, directed by Tamara Uribe and Felipe Morgado, showcased in the Forum section, and the experimental short Towards the Sun, Far from the Center, directed by Luciana Merino and Pascal Viveros, featured in the Berlinale Shorts category. The documentaries offer insights into Chile’s societal challenges and urban landscapes, respectively.
Paula Ossandón, director of Chiledoc, underscores the documentary genre’s significance as a vehicle for Chilean cinema’s international outreach. With films like The Eternal Memory and Malqueridas receiving international recognition, the upcoming premieres of Oasis and Towards the Sun, Far from the Center at the Berlinale are poised to continue this trend.
Furthermore, at Berlinale, Carola Fuentes of La Ventana Cine represents Chile’s documentary production at the festival, signalling the potential for international co-productions and the global appeal of Chilean storytelling.
