Sarajevo Film Festival 2024

AJB DOC Film Festival sets focus on peace as overall theme for fifth edition; announces full programme

Peace and faith for a better tomorrow connect all participants of films shown at the Fifth AJB DOC Film Festival. The overall theme of the year is the white dove, a universal symbol of peace.

Held between 9 – 13 September in Sarajevo, AJB DOC Film Festival now presents the 25 films (from over 300 submissions) that will be shown across the festival’s four programmes – Competition, AJB Screening, Last Minute Cinema, and SMART Doc, along with two special screenings. Highlights among the film programme include A House Made of Splinters (dir. Simon Lereng Wilmont), Children of the Mist (dir. Gorki Glaser-Müller), This Stolen Country of Mine (dir. Marc Wiese), Love, Deutschmarks and Death (dir. Cem Kaya), The Killing of a Journalist (dir. Matt Sarnecki),

New this year is the Industry Days platform. Created in cooperation with the Al Jazeera Documentary Channel, Industry Days@AJB Doc is aimed at supporting the development of documentary film production around the world, including international and regional co-productions.

Along with screenings of AJB DOC films, a masterclass by Galeb Nikačević, journalist and creator of the popular Agelast podcast, will be held. In addition, a three-day training session «Production of Documentary Films with a Smartphone» will be held in cooperation with the Al Jazeera Media Institute and Samsung.

The decision on the best film of the AJB DOC Competition Programme will be made by an award-winning international jury consisting of film director Aida Begić, director and producer Dana Budisavljević, documentary filmmaker and producer Fatma Riahi, British documentary filmmaker Phil Grabsky and documentary filmmaker Ensar Altay.
