The Ex Oriente Film documentary laboratory calls on ambitious creators to join its international programme, designed to elevate creative documentary projects and challenge the boundaries of storytelling. With applications now open, filmmakers can develop their projects, gain unique access to industry professionals, and receive tailored mentorship from exceptional talents.

This year’s programme will support 12 feature-length documentary projects and five docuseries, each represented by director-producer or creator-producer teams. The laboratory includes three residential sessions and additional online sessions, culminating in a pitch presentation at the East Doc Forum, where participants can showcase their work to over 80 international decision-makers.

Participants will benefit from financial support, co-production agreements, scholarships, and access to leading European markets. They will also become part of the exclusive Ex Oriente Film alumni network, offering lifetime access to a unique follow-up programme that encourages collaboration, idea sharing, and industry growth.

Ex Oriente Film seeks creators working on projects in the development and early production stages, particularly those that push creative boundaries. The programme is open to filmmakers from Central and Eastern Europe, including selected EU acceding and candidate countries.
