Baltic Sea Docs 2024 launches call for documentary film projects

Written by:

The Baltic Sea Forum for Documentaries (Baltic Sea Docs) has announced its call for projects for its 28th edition with a deadline of 10 May.. Scheduled for 1-8 September 2024 in Riga, Latvia, the forum is open to independent production companies from the Baltic Sea region, Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and others with documentaries pertaining to the region.

Focusing on full-length creative documentary projects, Baltic Sea Docs is also open to cross-media applications, reflecting the evolving landscape of documentary storytelling. In response to current geopolitical dynamics, notably Russia’s full-scale invasion of #Ukraine, the forum has excluded submissions from Russian production companies or projects centering on Russia.

This year, the forum will select 18 projects to pitch to international broadcasters, sales agents, film funds, and other industry representatives. Additionally, Baltic Sea Docs introduces a «Coming Soon» session for previously pitched projects in post-production, aiming to connect filmmakers with decision-makers and festival representatives.

Participation in Baltic Sea Docs is free, with the selection results announced by 7 June. Alongside industry activities, Baltic Sea Docs presents a public film programme showcasing recent documentaries, contributing to the cultural offering and public engagement with documentary cinema.

For more information, filmmakers and industry professionals are encouraged to visit the Baltic Sea Docs website.
