Baltic Sea Docs awards six projects at 28th edition

The 28th edition of the Baltic Sea Docs documentary forum wrapped up after a week of screenings, workshops, and pitch sessions. Six documentary projects were awarded to support their development and production.

Held from 1-8 September, the forum brought together filmmakers from the Baltic Sea region, Eastern Europe, and the Caucasus. Twenty-six projects were pitched to an international panel of industry professionals. The selected six winners are as follows:

  • Baltic Sea Docs Consultancy Award: Acting Classes (dir., prod. Sasha Shegai, prod. Yevgeniya Moreva) – Kazakhstan
  • BBposthouse Post-Production Award: Sacred Songs (dir. Nona Giunashvili, prod., co-author Mariam Bitsadze) – Georgia
  • East Doc Platform Award: Making Friends with the Idea of a Father (dir. Nikolay Stefanov, prod. Ralitsa Golemanova) – Bulgaria
  • IDFA Collaboration Award: Emptiness (dir. Viesturs Kairišs, prod. Elīna Gediņa-Ducena, Gints Grūbe) – Latvia/Romania
  • Movies That Matter Award: Leave Easy Come Back Safe (dir. Sasha Kulak, co-director Masha Maroz, prod. Julia Shaginurova) – Germany
  • Sheffield DocFest Award: Double Self Portrait (dir. Aistė Stonytė, prod. Giedre Žickytė, Migla Butkutė, Moonmakers, Lithuania, co-producer Uldis Cekulis) – Lithuania/Latvia
The forum also featured seminars, including a session on audience reach led by Paul Rieth and a seminar with Sundance’s Basil Tsiokos.
