CPH:DOX expands immersive non-fiction ambitions with INTER:ACTIVE 2026 programme

CPH:DOX has announced the full programme for its INTER:ACTIVE 2026 exhibition. Running March 11–22, the exhibition is framed by the overarching theme Hypervigilance, examining how digital saturation, surveillance cultures, and permanent crisis reshape contemporary subjectivity.

Curated by Mark Atkin, Head of Studies at CPH:LAB, Hypervigilance addresses a psychological and political condition defined by constant alertness. Across interactive installations, VR environments, AI-driven works, and live cinema performances, artists interrogate how attention, identity, and agency are negotiated in a world structured by extraction, algorithmic governance, and authoritarian pressure. Rather than presenting anxiety as an abstract mood, the exhibition situates it within lived experience, particularly for communities for whom surveillance and scrutiny function as everyday survival mechanisms.

The 2026 selection brings together a broad range of international projects. Highlights include Dark Rooms, an immersive VR experience exploring sexual awakening and intimacy; In the Current of Being, which transforms lived memories of conversion therapy into a multisensory act of resistance; and No Place at Home, an interactive narrative following a mother and her trans teenage child as they confront the necessity of leaving the United States. Other notable works include My Tent is Not a Shelter, Mohamed Jabaly’s installation stitched from personal clothing as a memorial to displacement in Gaza, and The Lost Golden Lotus, a Deaf-led multisensory installation re-examining China’s foot-binding legacy through embodied performance.

Several projects directly address technological power structures and systemic violence. Celestis Obscura – The Hidden Heavens draws parallels between historic gold rushes and contemporary space extraction economies, while Coded Black expands INTER:ACTIVE’s formal range through a PC game that confronts the histories and present-day realities of systemic racism in the US and UK, foregrounding Black resilience through interactive narrative design. The AI-driven installation The Pledge further extends these concerns into the public realm, confronting algorithmic bias through collective participation.

The majority of selected titles will be made available via CPH:MARKET, enabling accredited professionals to engage with projects beyond the exhibition floor. Targeted industry visits and a dedicated INTER:ACTIVE Award, accompanied by a 10,000 DKK cash prize.
