Doclisboa announces colonialism focused retrospective for 2022 festival

The first retrospective for Doclisboa 2022, (6 – 16 October) will go by the theme of «The Colonial Question». The programme is meant to unfold the colonial pasts of Portugal and France, two countries that share the war period in the African territories and keep resisting a confrontation with their own history.

The programme will explore the diversity of cinematographic representations made by and over the various protagonists of these wars, as well as their connections and differences, bringing together the direct testimonies of those who lived through the colonial period and revisiting the colonial memories and wounds that continue to arise and shape the present days.

The retrospective will be organized in the context of France Portugal Season 2022 and will be curated by Amarante Abramovici.

Doclisboa’s call for entries is now open and will run until May 31.
