DokuFest has unveiled the full competition slate for its 25th jubilee edition, with 104 films selected from a record 3,687 submissions. The festival, which runs from 7 to 15 August in Prizren, Kosovo, will present films across eight competition sections: Balkan Feature Dox, Balkan Short Dox, International Feature Dox, International Short Dox, International Shorts, Human Rights Dox, Green Dox and National Competition.

The selection includes a number of world, international and European premieres, reinforcing DokuFest’s role as a regional launchpad for documentary and narrative short filmmaking. Screenings will take place across venues in Prizren’s historic city centre and at Abi Qarshia cinemas.

Artistic Director Veton Nurkollari described the programme as a response to «the troubled world that we live in,» pointing to films shaped by war, environmental collapse, police militarisation, forest defence, desert heat and melting glaciers. «The world is on fire, and many filmmakers respond to this cataclysmic moment with films that somehow burst with fire too,» he said.

Among the Balkan Feature Dox titles are 2M² by Volkan Üce, A State Film by Roland Sejko, Peacemaker by Ivan Ramljak and Something Familiar by Rachel Taparjan, a Romania–United Kingdom co-production. The International Feature Dox section includes new work by Miguel Eek, Sanaz Sohrabi, Michał Marczak, Mahsa Karampour, Sebastian Brameshuber and Dongnan Chen.

The festival’s short-film competitions again form a major part of the programme. Samir Karahoda, head of DokuFest’s Short Film Program, said the selection brings together filmmakers who «challenge storytelling formats» and use the short form to experiment, confront sensitive subjects and question contemporary realities.

DokuFest will announce further programme details in the coming days, including its View from the World section, Country in Focus programme, juries, talks, panels, masterclasses and music line-up.
