FIFDH Impact Days 2026 expands global reach for impact documentary

FIFDH’s Impact Days closed its 2026 edition in Geneva with what organizers described as a record-setting year, underlining the growing institutional weight of impact documentary within the international nonfiction sector. The professional programme brought together more than 220 participants, including 115 social justice, environmental and philanthropic organisations, alongside over 100 filmmakers and impact practitioners. Across 15 moderated roundtables, the event continued to position itself as a high-level matchmaking space between documentary teams and advocacy partners, with at least one concrete collaboration already emerging between Reporters Sans Frontières and the project This Is Not a Civil War.

Twenty new organisations joined the programme, among them UNAIDS, the European Network Against Racism, Handicap International and the Olympic Refuge Foundation, while funders from Europe, Africa and the US took part, including Doc Society, Luminate, Working Films, IRIS and Documentary Africa. A new collaboration with SWISS FILMS, combined with the introduction of two additional awards backed by Working Films, Another Story Foundation and Impact Social Club, signaled a further consolidation of the event’s industry relevance.

The 2026 Impact Lab drew nearly 200 submissions from 70 countries after its August 2025 call, with projects developed through weeks of online mentoring before pitching in Geneva. Among the headline winners, Karlo Mlinar’s Olimbi – Mother Courage received the CHF 10,000 StoryBoard Impact Award, while This Is Not a Civil War by Hnin Thet Hmu Khin and Oliver Petrie took the Another Story Foundation x Impact Social Club Award. Rachel Lauren Mueller’s The Quiet Part won the Working Films Impact Award, Elisa Gómez Alvarez’s To the Moon and Back received the Swiss Focus Impact Award, and Flavia Cappellini’s Gaza Sunbirds collected the Sublimages Impact Award.

Previous projects including Yurlu | Country, Traces, Runa Simi and Scarlet Girls returned to Geneva this year through festival screenings and a UN side-event.
