Institute of Documentary Film launches applications for 2026 Short Pitch Programme

Written by:

The Institute of Documentary Film‘s Short Pitch Programme returns in May 2026 as an industry-facing platform for short documentary films (up to 25 minutes) from Central and Eastern Europe, supporting projects at either development or rough-cut stage.

Hosted during the 23rd Millennium Docs Against Gravity in Warsaw, Poland (8–17 May 2026), the program will select seven emerging director projects. Participation begins with online pitch training, designed to sharpen both the narrative framing and the professional presentation of each film.

The culmination is an in-person pitch in Warsaw to a panel of sales agents, distributors, and representatives from festivals and television networks, followed by one-on-one meetings that give participants direct access to potential partners and pathways to distribution and festival strategy.

Selection emphasises artistic quality alongside the strength and impact of the subject matter—prioritising projects that are urgent, clear, and distinctive. Applications are free of charge, with an application deadline of 1 February 2026 and decisions communicated by 2 March 2026.

An additional incentive is the Silver Eye Award, presented by an international jury to the standout project, recognising innovative form, social impact, or challenging and thought-provoking themes. The winner receives a year-long festival distribution service via East Doc Caravan.
