Institute of Documentary Film to bring Central & Eastern Europe focus to Sunny Side of the Doc

The Institute of Documentary Film (IDF) will bring film professionals from Central and Eastern Europe to spotlight the region’s emerging talents through Sunny Side of the Doc’s Talent Hub CEE. IDF will also co present together with DAE – Documentary Association of Europe the presentation a survey on documentary markets, and also launch the first session of the Ex Oriente Film.

Talent Hub and CEE Delegation

As a sponsor of the Talent Hub: Central and Eastern Europe, IDF partners from the Balkan Documentary Center, MADOKE (Hungary), APA – Audiovisual Producers’ Association (Czech Republic), Slovak Film Institute and Krakow Film Foundation, to present a catalogue of over 40 upcoming projects from Central and Eastern Europe to industry professionally from around the globe. The projects are looking for funding, co-production, sales and distribution partners. On Wednesday, June 23rd at 5.30 pm (CEST/UTC+2), the Talent Hub CEE will showcase 5 selected projects in development and production.

Meet the Central & Eastern European Delegation

Wednesday 23rd from 3.30 – 4.30pm (CET)

An extensive delegation of producers from Central & Eastern Europe will attend. Question posed across the event are:

  • What are the conditions for filmmakers in Central and Eastern Europe?
  • Where to go to find projects and co-production partners?
  • Who are the key players in the region?

Representatives answering these questions are: Zdenek Blaha – Institute of Documentary Film (CZ), Martichka Bozhilova – Balkan Documentary Center (BG), Silvia Panakova – ARINA Ltd. (SK), Radim Procházka – APA – Audiovisual Producers’ Association (CZ), Julianna Ugrin – MADOKE (HU), and Katarzyna Wilk – Krakow Film Foundation / Polish Docs (PL). The opening keynote will be done by Brigid O’Shea – DAE – Documentary Association of Europe (DE).

Survey

Wednesday 23rd from 3.30 – 4.30pm (CET)
The outcome of the survey Movements of Central and Eastern European Projects via European Documentary Markets, conducted between January and March 2021 by the IDF in collaboration with DAE – Documentary Association of Europe, will be presented as part of the Meet the Central & Easter European Delegation panel.

Ex Oriente Film

For the first time, Ex Oriente Film joins forces with Sunny Side of the Doc organising its first session. Ex Oriente Film invites Directors and producers of 12 selected projects to get guidance from a group of experienced leading tutors, including director and producer Filip Remunda, director and script developer Ivana Pauerová Miloševičová, producers and experts Iikka Vehkalahti, Mikael Opstrup and Tue Steen Müller.

The Ex Oriente Film tutors will also mentor projects shortlisted for Sunny Side of the Doc’s 2021 Talent Hub and Work in Progress showcases as part of this year’s Panorama of Central and Eastern Europe. The workshop will offer a series of lectures and masterclasses open to all Sunny Side of the Docs visitors by guest tutors including director Hubert Sauper and producers Jasmina Sijercic, Camilla Nielsson and Denis Vaslin.
