Nordic/Docs announces full 2025 programme

Norway’s #Nordic/Docs# has released the complete lineup for its 2025 edition, running 9–14 September at Fredrikstad Kino. Organisers say the program includes more than 70 films from Norway and abroad, alongside director talks, debates, seminars, a masterclass, and an awards ceremony.

The festival opens with Fighter, a feature following Geir Kåre Nyland, a former MMA prospect rebuilding his life after a spinal injury sustained in an accident at Sørenga in Oslo. The film is presented as a portrait of resilience «inside and outside the ring.» Returning by demand is the Oscar winner No Other Land; this year’s screening includes a visit from producers Bård Kjøge Rønning and Fabien Greenberg.

Beyond the opening film, the slate spans archival, social-issue, and personal documentaries. Newly listed program entries include Når vi snur oss, a reflective reunion between a filmmaker and an ex-animal-rights activist; and Under samme tak – Filmen om sykehuset, a portrait of hospital life. Other selections range from micro-memoir En kort film om kreft and family portrait Livet med Filip to nature study Mannen og rådyret, and migration history På høye hæler i Amerika. The program also features community-building profile Sammen er vi Knut.

In addition to Fighter and No Other Land, the published programme features several English-titled selections: Home, described as a «visual essay about finding your way home when you’re from nowhere» (world premiere); Things That Keep Me Up at Night, in which thirteen young people share the thoughts that keep them awake (Norwegian premiere); and more.

The festival’s masterclass pairs filmmakers #Margreth Olin# and #Sara Broos# for an open discussion on craft and process, while veteran director #Vibeke Løkkeberg# will present The Long Road to the Director’s Chair (2025), built from archival material documenting the rise of the 1970s feminist movement and recently highlighted following its Berlinale premiere.

Education and regional engagement remain core to the event. Nordic/Docs is collaborating with The Cultural Schoolbag (DKS) on an expanded schools program and will spotlight local filmmakers through screenings and discussions. Here you can find Show me your face when you look at a stranger, a short observing people’s reactions to meeting a stranger. The festival profile foregrounds #Sámi rights, #climate and #environment, animal welfare, #poverty, and #war and #conflict, with an emphasis on stories of outsiders and unheard voices alongside themes of hope, solidarity, and perseverance.
