Sarajevo Film Festival 2024

Nordisk Panorama announces full 35th edition programme

The Nordisk Panorama Film Festival (19-24 September, 2024) has announced a full lineup of events alongside its film competition. With 76 films screening in the 35th edition, the festival will explore topics ranging from personal narratives to global social issues through Nordic short films and documentaries.

In addition to the competition, the festival will host panels, screenings, and live performances. Key events include «Confronting the Echo Chambers,» a discussion on expanding audience engagement in the digital age, moderated by Karolina Lidin of Nordisk Film & TV Fond. Another is the «10 Things I Hate About Shorts» panel, which offers filmmakers insight into what festival programmers avoid in submissions, moderated by Jing Haase of the Swedish Film Institute.

The festival will also feature the screening of Archives of Oblivion, a film based on poems by Felicia Mulinari and Athena Farrokhzad, focusing on memory, grief, and the fight against# racism. The screening will be followed by a discussion connecting it with Suvi West’s film Homecoming, exploring the anti-colonial struggle of repatriating Sámi artifacts.

Art lovers can immerse themselves in Tova Mozard’s acclaimed video installation ILOVERUSS, which follows a struggling actor over 20 years. The installation will be looped throughout the festival at Malmö’s Hypnos Theatre, free to all attendees.

Renowned director Göran Hugo Olsson, known for The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975, will discuss his collaborative approach to filmmaking in a conversation moderated by Cecilia Lidin, where he reflects on the intersections of art, politics, and activism in his 30-year career.

The festival will also present the Nordic Documentary Producer Award, honoring a producer who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and innovation. The nominees for the €10,000 prize include Sara Stockmann (Denmark), Liisa Karpo (Finland), Sigurjón Sighvatsson (Iceland), Ingvil Giske (Norway), and Tobias Janson (Sweden).

For those seeking a more rebellious touch, Malmö’s own SMiSK, an x-rated femme-punk band, will take the stage at the Festival Bar Brogatan, offering a performance known for its confrontational and anarchic style.
