The 27th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, taking place from 6 – 16 March 2025, will spotlight two acclaimed filmmakers, #Nicolas Philibert# and #Lauren Greenfield#. Known for their evocative and socially resonant works, the two documentarians will attend the festival to present their films and engage with audiences.

French filmmaker Nicolas Philibert, celebrated for his empathetic explorations of human and social issues, will be honoured with the festival’s prestigious Golden Alexander for lifetime achievement. A special retrospective will include screenings of his acclaimed documentaries, such as To Be and to Have and On the Adamant. The latter, a tender portrayal of a unique mental health centre in Paris, won the Golden Bear at the 2023 #Berlinale. Philibert will also deliver a masterclass moderated by Marco Gastine. The retrospective will highlight Philibert’s work on mental health, including his trilogy on alternative psychiatric care: At Averroès & Rosa Parks (2024), The Typewriter and Other Headaches (2024), and On the Adamant (2023).

American filmmaker and photographer Lauren Greenfield, renowned for her incisive critiques of hyperconsumerism, will be featured in a tribute at TiDF. The festival will showcase her works, including The Queen of Versailles and Generation Wealth, which probe the societal impacts of wealth obsession. Her newest series, Social Studies (2024), examines the influence of social media on adolescents and will be screened in full during the festival.
