The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) has partnered with the #DocsConnect #Taskovski Training# Program in an ambitious effort to further strengthen the country’s burgeoning documentary film sector.
The #Philippines has a rich cinematic tradition, with filmmakers like #Brillante Mendoza# and #Lav Diaz# gaining international recognition. In recent years, the documentary genre has emerged as a vital medium for exploring societal, cultural, and political issues. FDCP Chairman Jose Javier Reyes has prioritized the growth of this genre, emphasizing innovation and education to prepare local filmmakers for a global stage.
The partnership will kick off with a five-day intensive workshop, focusing on 10 selected documentary projects in development, alongside 15 observer slots. Participants will receive six months of mentorship, covering story development, production, marketing, and international distribution. Key projects include A Dream for Kape de Kalamansig by Julius Neil Piala and Gregoria de Jesus by Arjanmar Rebeta and Khaye Medina.
The program incorporates principles of sustainability, mental health, and conscious leadership. It aims to nurture a generation of mindful filmmakers capable of navigating the evolving demands of the industry while staying true to their cultural roots.
Past success stories from Taskovski’s programs in #Nepal, #India, and Europe demonstrate the potential of such initiatives to create meaningful global connections.
By integrating the FDCP’s vision with Taskovski’s proven training model, the partnership aims to cement the Philippines as a key player in Southeast Asia’s documentary film industry. This effort not only enhances the skills of local filmmakers but also ensures their stories resonate with audiences worldwide.
Additionally, the OPEN CALL for applications is now open for the #DocsConnect Conscious Filmmaking Lab in Sitges, Spain, in October 2025.
