The competition sections of the 25th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival will feature over 30 world, international, and European film premieres. The competition films come via the International Competition, the Newcomers competition, and the >>Film Forward competition. All competing documentaries are in position for the 6 official awards, as well as for the 14 parallel awards. In addition, the International Competition Golden Alexander winner secures its place in the Oscars’ shortlist as did Simon Lereng Wilmont’s A House Made of Splinters last year.
From climate change to questions of gender oppression, the competition section documentaries, among which are nine Greek productions, take a stand on the most crucial issues of our times. Within the International Competition are included Beyond Revolution – Fighting for Democracy (dir. Kristof Gerega), Light Falls Vertical (dir. Efthymia Zymvragaki), and the world premieres of Who I Am Not (dir. Tünde Skovrán), The Last Seagull (dir. Tonislav Hristov), and Narrow Path to Happiness (dir. by Kata Oláh). The he Newcommers competition sees world premieres of Coming Around (dir. Sandra Itäinen ), Domingo Domingo (dir. Laura GarcÃa Andreu), Leon (dir. Wojciech Gostomczyk), and The Woman of Stars and Mountains (dir. Santiago Esteinou), amongst more titles. Finally, >>Film Forward sees the world premiere of Herd (dir. Michel Negroponte) and The Sharpness of Scissors (dir. David Marcial Valverdi) aomg its 20 titles.
