The 26th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival (TiDF) proudly hosts the acclaimed artist Dimitris Papaioannou, an extraordinary figure in the realms of directing, choreography, visual art, and performance. This year’s festival shines a spotlight on the multifaceted talents of Papaioannou, celebrating his innovative approach to art and its communication with audiences.
A highlight of the festival is the special screening of Bull’s Heart (working title), a work-in-progress documentary by the esteemed Greek director Eva Stefani, produced by Onassis Culture. This documentary provides an in-depth look at Papaioannou’s globally toured play Transverse Orientations which premiered in Greece in December 2021 and captivated over 80,000 spectators across three continents.
Additionally, the festival features Papaioannou’s artistic contribution through the poster of the 26th TiDF – a striking black-and-white drawing symbolizing a kiss, embodying themes of love and unity.
Art lovers can also experience Papaioannou’s video installation Inside, alongside Backside, a behind-the-scenes exploration of the installation, at MOMus-Experimental Center for the Arts in Thessaloniki. Papaioannou himself will grace the festival with his presence, attending film screenings and the opening of Inside.
Moreover, TiDF delves into Papaioannou’s cinematic ventures, screening his short films Nowhere and Primal Matter. These films showcase his unique ability to re-choreograph theatre through the lens of film, offering a new perspective on cinematic storytelling.
