The 26th edition of the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival (TiDF), set from 7 to 17 March, boasts a diverse selection of 250 documentaries, with 112 premieres both onsite in Thessaloniki’s celebrated venues and online.

The festival will unfurl starting with the opening film, They Shot the Piano Player by Fernando Trueba, who will grace the event with his presence and receive the honorary Golden Alexander. The closing film, Yanni Spanos: A Life Behind the Marquee by Aris Dorizas, is anticipated to leave a lasting impression on its viewers.

A special focus at TiDF is on the acclaimed #Dimitris Papaioannou#, whose documentary Bull’s Heart and the video installation Inside are among the presentations. Additionally, the festival honours #Panayotis Evangelidis# for his impactful work in #LGBTQI+ cinema, with a tribute that includes his film Tilos Weddings which will be accessible universally.

Greek cinema’s prominence is bolstered with 67 entries. The festival also offers a platform for emerging talent and unconventional storytelling across its International, Newcomers, and >>Film Forward competition sections.

Supplementing the film screenings, the TiDF Agora will serve as a nexus for industry professionals. The Podcast Section also introduces a new competition arena, diversifying the festival’s offerings.

In an homage to #democracy, TiDF commemorates the 50-year milestone of Greek democracy with pertinent films and discourse, adding a reflective dimension to the festival.
