The oldest Latin American film festival devoted to creative documentary, Brazil’s It’s All True – International Documentary Film Festival, has just announced the full programme for its 26th edition (8 – 18 April). This festival will edition will run online and will be free of charge (Brazilian audiences).
69 films from 23 countries will feature, 37 of which are part of its four official competitions. Opening the festival will be Jonas Poher Rasmussen’s Flee, winner of the International Documentary Competition at the 2021 #Sundance Festival. The Closing Film will be Luiz Bolognesi’s The Last Forest, world premiered at the 2021 #Berlinale.
Special programmes include a #Chris Marker# (1921-2012) retrospective celebrating the French Director’s centennial. The 90th anniversary of Brazilian-Mozambican maverick #Ruy Guerr#a, one of the leading cineastes of the #Cinema Novo# movement and a pioneer of the film industry of independent Mozambique, will also be celebrated. Brazilian singer and composer #Caetano Veloso# will receive an homage with nine documentaries summarizing more than 60 years of his unique career.
2021 It’s All True selections include the Brazilian Feature and Medium-length and International Feature and Medium-length films, Latin American Focus, The State of Things journalistic focus, and various special sessions. Among the nearly 70 films featured are included: Me and the Cult Leader – A Modern Report on the Banality of Evil (dir. Atsushi Sakahara), A Thousand Cuts (dir. Ramona S. Diaz), MLK/FBI (dir.
