41 films will be presented at the fifth Human Rights Film Festival Berlin. Running from 13 to 23 October, the festival will open with Ithaka (dir. Ben Lawrence), a powerful portrait of the family of #WikiLeaks founder #Julian Assange# and their personal consequences on the quest for truth.

With the 2022 motto «Beyond Red Lines», the festival focuses on the personal stories of inspiring people with highlights including Erasmus in Gaza (dir. Chiara Avesani, Matteo Delbò) – the story of a medical student from Italy who chose the crisis area of all places to spend his year abroad – the world premiere of Generation Euromaidan (dir. Kristof Gerega) and Taliban Land (dir. Nagieb Khaja, Peter Eggert Vesterlund). Additionally, ten films will compete for the Willy Brandt Documentary Film Award for Freedom and Human Rights, which will be chosen by a jury of Martina Dase (Save the Children), Uli Edel (Director), Malte Mau (Bundeskanzler-Willy-Brandt-Stiftung), Edima Otuokon (Ladima Foundation) and Hana Kulhankova (Institute of Documentary Film). Among the films in competition are Children of the Enemy (dir. Gorki Glaser-Müller), Bigger Than Us (dir. Flore Vasseur ), Eskape (dir. Neary Adeline Hay) and more. Outside of competition, film highlights include A House Made of Splinters (dir. Simon Lereng Wilmont), Judges Under Pressure (dir. Kacper Lisowski), The Killing of a Journalist (dir. Matt Sarnecki), The Territory (dir. Alex Pritz) and more.

The 2022 Human Rights Film Festival Berlin also presents its third Human Rights Forum – an interdisciplinary platform revolving around storytelling, activism and human rights, comprising conferences, workshops and a multimedia exhibition. Highlights of its programme include the launch of the new discussion series «Talking Humanity».
