The 26th edition of the One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival returns to Prague, presenting an array of impactful documentaries from around the globe. Scheduled from 12 March to 27 April across 57 cities in the Czech Republic, the festival aims to engage audiences through compelling narratives that address vital contemporary issues, ranging from personal stories to broader societal concerns.
Opening the festival is My Memory is Full of Ghosts, a film that examines collective memory and historical trauma. This documentary is part of the International Competition, featuring notable films like The Guest, highlighting complex narratives of migration and belonging.
The festival’s Czech Competition will showcase significant national documentaries, including All the Mountains Give, which offers intimate insights into local communities, and Volver a Volver, which explores identity and belonging.
Additional categories this year include «Female Gaze,» which showcases films such as Xixi and Nice Ladies, both of which highlight unique stories from women’s perspectives. Conversely, «Male Beings» features The Quiet Son and Silent Men, which explore various dimensions of male identity and vulnerability.
Environmental challenges are addressed in the «Ecosystems» category with documentaries like I Am the River, the River is Me, and Compost Me, emphasizing humanity’s interconnectedness with the environment and ecological urgency.
«Searching for Freedom» includes documentaries like On Falling and Flavours of Iraq, portraying deeply personal accounts of resilience and advocacy for human rights.
Regional stories are spotlighted in «The Slovak Journey,» which features documentaries such as The Most Beautiful Corner in the World and Long Live Death, offering introspective views on regional social and political realities.
The innovative «Immersive Films Competition» presents groundbreaking interactive works, including From Ground Zero and Perinatal Dreaming – Understanding Country.
A highlight of the festival is the #Homo Homini Award# ceremony, honoring individuals or groups who demonstrate outstanding bravery and commitment to #human rights# advocacy. This year’s recipients, to be announced at the event, join an esteemed list of past honorees recognized for their courageous efforts in advancing #democracy and human rights.
