The 2024 edition of DOK Neuland at the DOK Leipzig film festival showcases 11 works across VR, AR, 360° film, installations, and participatory cinema, exploring the theme of transformation as both a challenge and an opportunity. Curated by filmmaker Dana Melaver, the exhibition, titled Fluxusopolis, will run from 29 October to 3 November.
The works presented focus on generating new «realities» and expanding traditional conceptions of artistic expression. Highlights include Finally Me and Glitchbodies, which allow viewers to experience alternative identities, and Nothing Can Ever Be the Same, which uses Brian Eno’s archive to create new audiovisual experiences. Participatory works like AR Character Run invite audience interaction, while Reconstruction Home uses AR to reconstruct war-torn homes from survivors’ memories.
Additionally, DOK Neuland will feature Traces of Responsibility, a participatory film about post-genocide Rwanda, where audiences use an app to choose narrative pathways.
DOK Neuland is free to the public, though tickets are required for the Interactive Cinema screenings.
DOK Exchange XR, part of the DOK Industry program, expands to two days, focusing on immersive media and spatial audio. The event includes keynotes, panels, and a new XR Prototyping Zone where creators test projects with industry experts. Featured prototypes include Revival Roadshow (Netherlands) and The Room of Resonance (Germany), exploring interactive storytelling and audience engagement.
