FIFAC Announces Jury for 6th Edition of Amazonie-Caraïbes Documentary Film Festival

The Festival International du Film documentaire Amazonie-Caraïbes (FIFAC) has revealed that #Gessica Généus#, a renowned Haitian actress, singer, and director, will serve as the President of the Jury for its 6th edition. The festival is set to take place from 8 to 12 October, 2024, in Saint-Laurent du Maroni, French Guiana.

Généus, who has been active in the film industry since she was seventeen, has a notable history of involvement in Haiti’s reconstruction efforts post the 2010 earthquake. She has also gained acclaim for her documentary and feature film work, including her award-winning documentary Douvan jou ka leve and her feature film Freda, which was selected for the #Cannes Film Festival in 2021.

Joining Généus on the jury are four distinguished individuals from the film and television industry:

  • Marc Barrat: A director from #French Guiana# with extensive experience in local film production and a strong background in documentary filmmaking.
  • Wally Fall: A Guadeloupe-based director known for his exploration of identity and collective memory through his films. Fall is also a co-founder of the Cinémawon collective, which promotes African and Afro-descendant cinema.
  • Amandine Picault: The Executive Director of Discovery and Science Documentaries at France Télévisions, with a career dedicated to developing international documentary projects.
  • Luc de Saint-Sernin: A writer and director who has significantly contributed to the organisation and content creation for France Télévisions’ overseas channels. His documentaries have won multiple awards at international festivals.

The festival will culminate in a closing night ceremony on 12 October at the historic Camp de la Transportation, where the jury will present three awards: the FIFAC – France Télévisions Grand Prize for the best feature-length documentary, the Jury’s Special Prize for a feature film, and the Best Documentary Short Film Prize.
