KineDok, the international documentary distribution project run by the Institute of Documentary Film, has announced its 2025/26 collection: a bold lineup of 16 full-length documentaries alongside a curated block of archival short films. The collection will be available for screenings across Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, and Romania from May 2025 through April 2026.

Among the feature documentaries are I’m Not Everything I Want to Be by Klára Tasovská, a visual self-portrait through the lens of Czech photographer Libuše Jarcovjáková, and The Other One by Marie-Magdalena Kochová, a coming-of-age story about sisterhood and autism. Infrastructure meets social critique in Byeway by Ivo Bystřičan, while Pelikan Blue by László Csáki delves into 1990s Hungary with an animated tale of forged train tickets and post-Soviet wanderlust.

International titles include Balomania by Sissel Morell Dargis, following underground balloon makers in Brazil, and Agent of Happiness by Arun Bhattarai and Dorottya Zurbó, set in Bhutan. Notably, Ms. President by Marek Šulík offers a rare political portrait of Slovakia’s president Zuzana Čaputová.

The archival component, Shadows of History, presents four shorts from the 1960s and 1970s, including A Gifted Town (Czechoslovakia), Inhabitants of Castles (Hungary), Let Our Voices Be Heard (Yugoslavia), and The Journals of Hrib (Romania). These films offer critical reflections on state narratives, built heritage, and cultural memory.

Other standout titles include Imaginary Youth and Alice On & Off from Romania, Grand Prize and The Ground Where We Stand from Croatia, and the VR short Fresh Memories: The Look, set in war-torn Kharkiv. Thierry Loa’s 21-22 CHINA provides a meditative glimpse into China’s rapid transformation.
