New industry initiative connects rising film talents worldwide

In a new collaboration, the Locarno Film Festival, Thessaloniki International Film Festival, Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, IFFR, and Karlovy Vary International Film Festival have come together to launch an initiative called Launchpad. Aimed at supporting emerging film professionals in various industry sectors, Launchpad facilitates access to a network of prestigious film festivals throughout the year.

The primary objective of Launchpad is to integrate selected individuals working in international sales, marketing, distribution (both traditional and online), exhibition and programming, as well as funds and commissions. By offering them the opportunity to participate in important industry events either virtually or in person, Launchpad enables these professionals to be part of key activities and expand their international network.

To ensure a fair and inclusive process, each festival, industry platform, or market within the Launchpad network will select a maximum of 10 emerging film professionals through a public call for applications. Once chosen, these participants will receive automatic access to all partner events for a year after selection. They will be granted a complimentary industry accreditation, and those attending physically will enjoy tailor-made programs and admission to all networking events. Additionally, each partner will organise an online introduction meeting and a global get-together annually, fostering connections within the Launchpad community.

The Locarno Industry Academy has already selected its first group of Launchpad participants, and in the coming weeks, each event will announce its respective calls for applications. Notably, Thessaloniki Locarno Industry Academy participants will automatically gain access to Launchpad, further enriching their professional journey.
