The 10th edition of the #MOLDOX Festival will take place from 26–30 November 2025 in Chișinău, with a programme that examines conflict, social fragility and the ways communities respond to upheaval. Under the theme «Chaos. Reinventing Reality,» the festival positions documentary cinema as both a witness to crises and a medium for imagining alternatives.
This year’s selection comprises 27 feature-length and 6 short documentaries from Moldova and around the world, most of them screening as premieres. The films trace stories from #Siberia to Khartoum, India’s red-light districts to Moldova’s depopulated villages, addressing topics such as #war, #migration, #trauma, utopian experiments and collective healing. The lineup includes high-profile titles such as The Voice of Hind Rajab, which has already sparked debate at major international festivals, including Venice. Another notable title is the IDFA-winning, Trains.
A key innovation of the 2025 edition is the launch of the Green Vine national documentary competition. The new section is dedicated to Moldovan filmmakers whose work engages with social, environmental and identity-related issues. An international jury will select the winning film, which will receive support for both distribution and further project development.
To mark the festival’s 10th anniversary, the organisers are also introducing several new events and formats. The programme includes a concert by the Queer Choir featuring a surprise local guest, as well as a redesigned series of public panels.
Beyond the cinema auditorium, MOLDOX will host a range of side events intended to encourage interaction, discussion and informal learning. Throughout the festival, audiences will have access to concerts, a photo exhibition and themed parties.
Cărturești la Muzeu will also present a poster exhibition highlighting the people and organisations that have contributed to MOLDOX over the past decade. Visitors will find the MOLDOX Bookshelf in the same space, offering film-related reading recommendations and remaining open until 30 November. The full festival programme is available on the website.
In parallel with the screenings, MOLDOX Lab will return as a training and networking hub for emerging professionals. Young directors, producers and screenwriters will participate in workshops led by mentors from Sweden, Greece and the Balkans, organised in partnership with Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, Balkan Documentary Center and Pitch the Doc. The Lab programme includes masterclasses and discussions exploring how documentary film can be used as a tool for social change.
According to the organisers, a decade on from its founding, MOLDOX aims to remain not just a festival but an ongoing practice of listening to marginalised voices and rethinking common narratives through film.
