The 27th Sarajevo Film Festival, 13 – 20 August 2021, tributes Wim Wenders with the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo Award and honoured with a retrospective of his selected works in the Festival’s «Tribute to» Programme.
As part of the tribute, Wenders will hold a Masterclass, and the Festival will also organise a special screening of the newly restored version of his Berlinale Silver Bear winning film The Million Dollar Hotel (2000).
The Director of Oscar nominated documentaries Pina, Buena Vista Social Club, and The Salt of the Earth, Wenders will be returning to Sarajevo Film Festival ten years after debuting his homage to Pina Bausch in 2011.
Of course, Wenders is also a highly acclaimed narrative filmmaker, scriptwriter, producer, photographer and author whose films The American Friend, Paris, Texas, Wings of Desire, The State of Things, and more have made him one of the pioneers of New German Cinema.
Past recipients of the Heart of Sarajevo Award include Mads Mikkelsen (2020), Paweł Pawlikowski (2019), Nuri Bilge Ceylan (2018), Béla Tarr (2013), and Mike Leigh (2006).
