Sarajevo Film Festival and Council of Europe introduce new Youth Perspectives Award

Written by:

The Sarajevo Film Festival, in collaboration with the Council of Europe, has announced the inauguration of the Special Youth Perspectives Award, a new annual distinction set to debut at the 31st edition of the festival in August 2025. With a monetary value of €7,500, the award is designed to foreground cinematic narratives that critically engage with young people’s lived experiences, aspirations, and socio-political agency in contemporary society.

The initiative emerges against profound digital transformation, shifting demographic landscapes, and escalating environmental crises—challenges that disproportionately affect youth. In response, the award will recognise films that explore how young individuals navigate these complexities, contribute to democratic processes, and propose alternative models for social inclusion and equity.

Introducing the Special Youth Perspectives Award aligns with the Council of Europe’s strategic objectives in the youth sector, particularly its focus on fostering inclusive, peaceful societies. It further consolidates the longstanding partnership between the Sarajevo Film Festival and the Council of Europe, which has historically employed cinema as a medium for advancing #human rights#, #democracy, and the rule of law.

The 31st Sarajevo Film Festival will be held from 15 to 22 August, 2025.
