Climate Story Fund 2026 opens global call for nonfiction projects

Written by:

Doc Society has opened the 2026 Climate Story Fund, offering grants of up to $125,000 for independent nonfiction projects capable of expanding public engagement with climate justice and a just transition.

The international call is open to emerging and established creators working across documentary film, nonfiction series, podcasts and radio documentaries. Eligible projects should demonstrate how their stories can help audiences imagine more equitable futures and translate that engagement into meaningful action.

Films of any length may apply, although the fund has placed particular emphasis on short documentaries during this cycle. Defined as films running 40 minutes or less, short projects may apply for grants of up to $40,000 and will be considered from late development through production and rough cut. Completed shorts seeking support for impact activities are also eligible.

Other nonfiction projects must have reached late production or rough-cut stage. Completed projects may apply for impact-only funding. Selected grants can cover production, post-production and impact expenses, including filming, editing, crew costs, rights and clearances.

Applicants must first submit an Expression of Interest. The fund is open internationally, although student productions and projects commissioned by broadcasters, universities or other third parties are ineligible.

The deadline is Monday, 6 July 2026 at 2pm BST.
