Between 5 – 14 March, a restructured International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH) will take place. The largest such festival in the field of human rights has adapted its 19th edition to the current pandemic situation with several new sections and platforms including the Utopia3 podcast series, video Activist Voices, as well as the creation of a new Audience Award.
The entire 2021 FIFDH programme is dedicated to Turkmen photojournalist/activist Soltan Achilova who reports on systematic human rights abuses in her home country and will feature nearly 30 films divided amongst three sections. Of those, several documentary selections will be screened including This Rain Will Never Stop (dir. Alina Gorlova), Downstream to Kinshasa (dir. Dieudo Hamadi), White Noise (dir. Daniel Lombroso), and Coup 53 (dir. Taghi Amirani).
Aside from films, the 19th FIFDH will also feature a variety of other sections including Masterclasses with Milo Rau and Oleg Sentsov, debates featuring esteemed guests like Angela Davis, Ai Weiwei, Arundhati Roy, Max Richter, and Patrisse Cullors, conversations, exhibitions, panels and more.
Aside from the public programme, the FIFDH Impact Day continues after its late January initial session. During the festival, selected films’ teams will participate in pre-arranged one-to-one meetings with changemakers (representatives of NGOs, foundations, international organisations, philanthropists, etc.) who share a common interest in similar issues and causes.
