After over 320 professionals representing 52 countries engaged with 12 investigative documentary projects, Sunny Side of the Doc’s Global Pitch Award was given to The Hungarian Playbook (dir. Bence Máté; prod. Florian Schewe, Film Five).

The film will receive € 3,000 from Real Stories and Off the Fence plus 2 full passes for Sunny Side of the Doc. Catching the attention of a jury made up of #Ellen Windemuth# (CEO, Waterbear Network), #Debra Zimmerman# (Executive Director, Women Make Movies), #Claudia Bucher# and Lauren Ezell Kinlaw (Senior Story Editor, FRONTLINE | PBS), The Hungarian Playbook follows the struggle of a handful of young journalists against the #propaganda machine of prime minister #Viktor Orbán#.

On the film, the jury stated:

«We found it difficult to choose just one film as we were quite impressed with the breadth and quality of the twelve selected projects. Ultimately, we felt The Hungarian Playbook stood out in its coverage of a timely and urgent story that is not only important in Hungary, but in all of Europe and across the globe”, commented Lauren Ezell Kinlow. “The project speaks to the threat posed by the rise of far-right movements and autocratic leaders in countries around the world, and the courage of journalists fighting both within and outside the system.»

Additionally, #DOK.fest Munich# provided two complimentary accreditations to the Global Pitch project Shut the Fuck up! (dir. Taisiia Kutuzoval prod. East Roads Films) -Ukraine/France. The team will join the DOK.forum Marketplace to be held from 5th to 11th May 2021.
