The Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival

The Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival is the largest festival of creative documentary films in Central and Eastern Europe. It draws attention to documentaries notable for their innovative visual style and a deeper social reflection and confrontation.
The Jihlava IDFF has a prominent place on the map of documentary film festivals, being also a member and co-founder of Doc Alliance, an initiative of seven key European documentary film festivals, the activities of which also include the selective documentary and experimental video-on-demand portal dafilms.com.
A Pre-war Comedy
The creators of 2004’s fake hypermarket, Czech Dream, return with a second feature documentary, moving away from their country’s consumerist tendencies and to its knack of being occupied by military forces. Along their journey, the filmmakers are confronted with various presidents, pieces of false information, wartime pop tunes and a wild boar named Jonas.
JIHLAVA 2009: Illuminations and illusions
The young festival team at Jihlava offered us an insight into what the Czech past and reconstructions of their inheritances have to offer today. The programme included films from the period of the Nazi Protectorate of 1939-45, and reflected upon the values of the later generations.
