MajorDocs, the Mallorca Documentary Film Festival, has unveiled the complete programme for its seventh edition, running 25–29 November across venues including Teatre Xesc Forteza (opening gala), CineCiutat (closing ceremony), and the newly added Pati de Ses Dones at La Misericòrdia.
The feature competition presents eight documentaries from eight countries, spanning colonial legacies, identity, mental health, and the social effects of digital life:
- Action Item (Paula Ďurinová) — Spanish premiere
- Al Oeste, en Zapata (David Bim)
- Deuses de Pedra (Iván Castiñeiras)
- Fiume o Morte! (Igor Bezinović)
- Liti Liti (Mamadou Khouma Gueye) — Spanish premiere
- Real (Adele Tulli)
- Songs of a Slow Burning Earth (Olha Zhurba) — Spanish premiere
- Vino la noche (Paolo Tizón)
All other titles will premiere in the Balearic Islands. The Feature Jury comprises filmmaker Ben Rivers, sound designer Philippe Ciompi, and essayist Lola López Mondéjar.
Guest of Honour Ben Rivers will deliver a masterclass on his creative process. Philippe Ciompi leads a session on conceptual and aesthetic approaches to sound. Lola López Mondéjar will discuss devices, addictive entertainment, and imagination in “En serie: Mickey 17 and the Atrophy of Creative Capacity.” A dedicated DocSession focuses on sound, featuring Balearic sound designers Laura Díez and Rubén Pérez, and Chilean sound designer Álvaro Silva.
The Official Balearic Short Film Selection includes Feix, Fragmentos de Willy, Pausa, Pesa, Sa Curolla, and Vida injusta, developed through MajorDocs Mentories with students from CESAG, CEF, and Juniper Serra. The Short Film Jury features Constança Amengual, Xavi Herrero, and Joan Bover. Out of competition, audiences can see Dom, En el nom de les flors, Una casa, and El ressò de la mirada.
MajorDocs Pitch will present five non-fiction projects to programmers, filmmakers, and industry professionals. MajorDocs Educa expands with morning screenings and filmmaker Q&As, reaching more than 1,400 students—an increase of over 70% from 2023. The Communities program broadens access via Apropa Cultura and a Social Seat initiative offering free tickets to selected 6 p.m. screenings.
Opening night on Tuesday, November 25, begins at 5:30 p.m. at Teatre Xesc Forteza with a screening of Ben Rivers’s The Sky Trembles and the Earth Is Afraid and the Two Eyes Are Not Brothers, followed by a sound performance by Philippe Ciompi.
